Grace and peace to you from God our Father and His Son Jesus Christ.

In last week’s Gospel we read of how the disciples were in the boat with Jesus and He was asleep and the furious squall came up and almost swamped the boat.  (Mark 4)

I highlighted among other things that the writer states that they were almost swamped, I love his choice of wording – they were not swamped by the huge waves, but it felt like they would be, they were not drowning, but it certainly felt like they were, and they cry out to Jesus – “Don’t you care?”

I think the world is experiencing this phenomenon. We are almost swamped, by the pandemic, corruption, drugs, maladministration, economic hardship, unemployment. The squall is “furious” and unrelenting. I fear that we turn to scripture and receive words of encouragement, from St Paul, about perseverance and overcoming, but we fail in one key aspect. Jesus is still asleep in the boat, the Church. We stand on our faith, our religion, and on the promises of God, but only when we call on the Name of Jesus and have a reawakening of Jesus, will the storms of our lives be stilled. Jesus is not a concept or a thought process (Philosophy) or a distant Power force, He is a personal Saviour, who calms the storms, rights the wrongs, transforms our lives. As your servant disciple of God, I am calling for a reawakening of Jesus in our Church, for us all to give Him central place and, His due as King of our lives. If Jesus is King and we are calling on His Name, we must do what He has called us to do and that is to share in the ministry of God to all the world.

There are two key resources that we are going to draw on as we seek to do this.

1. The Reconciliation Course: To call on the Name of Jesus requires us to be reconciled to God, to ourselves and to each other. I urge you to join this course running throughout July and to open your hearts to God’s healing hand. It is on Zoom and so I understand that some may not be able to participate, but we will be working on other ways to take this forward after the July Course.

2. Rooted In Jesus:  – A WhatsApp based Discipleship course that we will run in August.

All who call on the Name of the Lord will be saved.

Pray for revival, pray for the hearts of God’s people to turn to Him. Pray that we will all take our rightful place as ambassadors of reconciliation.

May God bless us abundantly.

Choose faith not fear

Fr Andrew.
